Global Wave binding Pakistan and India with Project Management

The Project Management Day under the aegis of Project Management Institute (PMI®), the world's leading professional association for the project management profession based at USA , was organised by PMI ® Lahore Chapter at the Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore on 19 th December, 2005. The theme for the Project Management Day was “Managing Projects Beyond Oceans & Firewalls”.

 
The conference was a stepping stone to rekindle the relations between India and Pakistan with common binding factor of Project Management. It provided an excellent platform for project practitioners, academicians and professionals together to participate, share, publish and leverage experiences and best practices in project management across boundaries. The occasion was graced by the presence of PMI ® North India Chapter President, Upendra Giri, PMP ® .

The one day Conference was held on Monday, 19 th December, 2005 with welcome note delivered by Mr. Khalid Ahmad Khan, President, PMI ® Lahore Chapter. It was graced with the speech of Mr. Rizwan Amin Sheikh, Chairman Punjab IT Board. It was followed by keynote address delivered by Mr. Upendra Giri who is the Founder and CEO of AstroWix Corporation, a company exclusively committed to the Project and Program Management discipline. Upendra is an entrepreneur, consultant, mentor, trainer, and adviser on project management practices to some of America 's leading companies. Upendra had been contributing to the Project Management community across the globe and is President of PMI ® North-India Chapter. Additionally Mr. Giri is also a Charter Member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), New Delhi .

 
Apart from discussions and general sessions, the program included sessions by experts from the Industry, such as:

  • Malik Imran Ijaz, Govt Account Manager -Microsoft Corporation
  • Arif Iqbal Rana, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Lahore University of Management Sciences

“Project Management is being held in Pakistan at a crucial juncture when developing countries are at the verge of transition and going through economic transcendental which is opening up avenues for multi-dimensional, cross cultural projects. In India itself the demand for certified professionals has helped grow the number of PMI® Certified project management professional to more than 6,000, which is the second
largest in Asia. Developing countries like India and Pakistan need the best practices in project management both in the public and the private sectors. Good project management will help in creating a roadmap in various national initiatives and make sure that the road map is followed to achieve the desired goals” said Upendra Giri, President PMI-North India Chapter. “In a world where all business initiatives need to be focused and result-oriented, organizations are applying project management to target corporate needs, rather than to merely accomplish specific individual project goals. As awareness among executive increase, corporations are starting to promote project management as a method of formulating plans and executing those, and today project management discipline is an international fact.” further added Mr. Giri.
