Thomas was born in London in 1964. When he was 12 his parents migrated to France, and he adopted French as a mother tongue. He is a French “Classes Préparatoires” graduate (Khagne), with a BA Humanities (Nanterre Paris X), a BA Industrial Management (Montpellier) and an M. Phil. European Studies (Geneva). He has actively been involved in European affairs, in an attempt to go beyond the Nation State, and to see Europe as a whole.
Thomas has been involved behind the Iron Curtain in 1988, meeting dissidents and creating links with Western sympathizers. He gained a medal from the Ukraine in 1989 “for his activities behind the Wall”.
His M. Phil on the EU projects of higher education served as a blueprint for the “Bologna” process of reforming European higher education. The US government used the thesis to negotiate EU-US agreements in education, and he participated in the negotiations in 1991 in Brussels on the European Commission side.
Thomas has a serious dyslexia disability and worked as a volunteer with Microsoft managers in Hungary in 1992 on improving the spelling correctors, and creating grammar correctors in MS Word. His structural analysis was taken up at Harvard as a research project, and ended in standard grammar correctors on most writing software.
Thomas has participated in the first embryonic attempts of the European Union institutions to communicate directly with the citizens, and led the “Europe Direct” team for 3 years. He left to marry an Indian lady, and took up a position as a European Union diplomat in New-Delhi (Development Project Manager Education and Environment).
All through his career, which started in IMD, Thom has tried to implement better practices of management; in particular in the public sector that he thinks badly needs to get involved in private sector type performance evaluation. The PMI plays an important role in this process.
As VP Communications, Thomas will ensure that all PMI related information and news reached each one of the members. He will communicate with the members on several fronts and be the face of the chapter.
